YASMIN is very useful in treating preventing pregnancy, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) or certain types of acne in women who are using Yasmin for birth control and it works by preventing ovulation, thickening the mucus in the cervix, and changing the lining of the uterus.

Usage

Drug Class and Mechanism

YASMIN falls under progesterone and estrogen combination birth control pill and it works by preventing ovulation, thickening the mucus in the cervix, and changing the lining of the uterus.

Missed Dose

It must only be used when required. So, there are no chances of a missed dose since it is not taken according to a regular dosage schedule.

Storage

Store YASMIN at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F(20 and 25 degrees C). Always keep it in a cool dark place that is not directly exposed to sources of heat or moisture and sunlight. Protect it from kids and pets.

Warning/Precautions

Doctors advise against using YASMIN if you are allergic to any ingredient in it or if you have conditions like istory of blood clotting problems, severe blood clots (e.g., in the lungs, legs, eyes), certain blood vessel problems (e.g., bleeding in the brain, heart attack, stroke), or breast cancer.
Discuss your past/current medical history in detail with your doctor before beginning treatment with any new medication. If you are using any herbal supplements or over the counter medication, including vitamin pills, then mention it to your doctor.
Your condition might be monitored or the dosage might be modified to suit you if you have conditions like certain heart problems (e.g., heart valve problems, certain types of irregular heartbeat); chest pain caused by angina; certain blood problems (e.g., porphyria); certain types of headaches or migraines with aura; severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure; diabetes that affects circulation; endometrial, cervical, or vaginal cancer; estrogen-dependent growths; or undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding;
kidney disease, adrenal disease, liver disease or liver tumors, or a history of yellowing of the eyes or skin caused by pregnancy or prior birth control use;
Do not smoke or use other tobacco products while taking Yasmin as it may cause several diseases like stroke, heart attack, blood clots, high blood pressure, or similar problems.
YASMIN may increase the risk of getting dizziness or drowsiness. This risk greatly increases if you combine it with alcoholic beverages. So please avoid them while using YASMIN. Also, avoid undertaking any tasks which require mental alertness (driving, handling heavy machinery etc).
Doctors may prescribe certain laboratory tests like breast exams, Pap tests, physicals, and blood pressure to determine how you have responded to treatment and to gauge the severity of the side effects of the drug. Please Keep all lab appointments and do not miss any tests.
Please inform your lab technician or surgeon that you are taking the drug before you undergo any emergency surgical procedure including dental operations.
If you are expecting a child or are planning to have a child in the near future, then consult your doctor before using YASMIN to discuss any possible threats to the unborn baby. It is advised to not use this drug during pregnancy.
If you are a nursing mother and breast feed your baby, then too, seek consultation before using YASMIN as this is excreted in the breast milk and may enter the baby.
